When deciding where to travel to or live in America, which are the safest cities in the US is something many people ask. When people travel or decide to move to another city, one of the most important things is for them to feel safe. The last thing you want is to feel worried or unsafe.

While property crime is far and away the most common type of crime people are victimized by, it is far from the only one people experience. As a result, you need to do all you can to protect yourself from these crimes.

There are many safe cities throughout the country, but these are the ten that we believe are some of the safest cities in the US for 2022. Read on to learn more about why these are among the safest cities in America.

Frisco, Texas

First up on our list of the Safest Cities in the US is Frisco, Texas.

We begin our list by looking at Frisco, Texas. This city is just north of Dallas and is home to over 200,000 people. This city appears on this list due to the meager rates of violent crimes. There are less than 100 violent crimes per 100,000 people in the city.

While the property crime rate is a little higher, it is still much lower than in other places. Also, the drug poisoning mortality rate is very low. It is an affordable place to live, on the rise, very close to Dallas, and even has good weather. With all this going for it, it should come as no surprise that it is among the fastest-growing cities in the entire country.

The city only had a little more than 110,000 people in 2010 and has approximately doubled in size in the last decade. The city’s growth shows no signs of slowing down and will likely continue to be a safe and popular place to live for a long time.

California is home to many safe cities, and one of the safest is certainly Santa Clarita. The city has over 225,000 people and is known for how safe it is to live and visit. Other types of crime, such as violent crimes, are also deficient compared to other cities, and you can feel safe here. While the city’s safety is the main reason people live and move here, it isn’t the only one. The city is home to some great schools, is close to Los Angeles, and features a strong economy. Despite how many great places there are to live in California, Santa Clarita continues to be one of the fastest-growing cities in the state.

Portland has much less crime than similarly-sized cities throughout the country.  The property crime and violent crime rates are much lower than the average throughout the country. These crime rates have also been going down consistently over time, making the city safer and safer every year.

Property crime, in particular, has been seeing a significant drop compared to recent years, and this is a trend that residents hope will only continue. While being safe is a strong drawing point to the city, so is the fact it is an outdoor lover’s paradise. There are mountains, rivers, hiking trails, lakes, and more. There is also a lot of new construction, and Boise provides a great mix of quiet rural and urban living.

Boise has long been an underrated place to live and is finally getting the respect and attention it deserves. While it is still affordable, the costs of things like housing could rise as more and more people look to call the city home.

With slightly over 25,000 people living in Ridgefield, it is one of the smallest cities on this list. While it might be small, if safety is one of your main concerns, it is a brilliant place to live. Hardly any crime takes place in the city, and the rates are minuscule. While nowhere can be safe 100% of the time, Ridgefield is about as close as you can get. Your chances of being a victim of property crime are very low. Your chances of suffering a violent crime are even lower.

It is surrounded by forests and mountains, perfect for the person who loves to spend time outdoors. The education level of its residents is high, and upward mobility is great in the area.

But of course, the reason this city appears on this list is because of how safe it is. Violent and property crimes are far below the average.  Yet violent crime was actually slightly rising in past years. It has since been trending in the right direction which helps it stay on the list of safest cities in the US. Property crimes have seen a dramatic decrease and are dropping faster than the national average.

This is a beautiful and safe place to call home if you can handle the cold weather that New Hampshire generally gets in the winter. However, be aware that the costs might be a little higher than you expect, as this area has become a bedroom community for Boston, which is less than an hour away.

Scranton, Pennsylvania

Despite being one of the larger cities in Pennsylvania, Scranton can still maintain a small-town feel with many close-knit neighborhoods. A big part of this small-town appeal is their minuscule crime rates. While their property crime rate is a little more impressive than their violent crime rate, both still combine to make this one of the safest cities in the US.

It also has a vibrant atmosphere in the downtown areas and is full of great shops, restaurants, museums, and things to do. Despite this safety, small-town feel, and easy access to major cities, the city still features a low cost of living and is perfect for families and individuals alike.

Choke Creek Falls is located in Lackawanna County’s southern corner. A beautiful waterfall is located in Pinchot State Forest along the recently rerouted Pinchot Trail. This waterfall is little-known outside of the area but should be on the list of every outdoor enthusiast.

Houdini Museum

It might seem strange for a museum dedicated to Harry Houdini to be located in Scranton. Regardless it’s easily one of the best things to do in Lackawanna County. A world-renowned magician, Dorthy Dietrich, and a magician, Dick Brookz, run the Houdini Museum. She was dubbed the “First Lady of Magic” and performed several daring feats of magic.

There is a great magic show as well as items from Houdini’s illustrious career on display at the museum.

Naples, Florida

Naples Florida

Naples is a dream destination for many people, full of beaches, fantastic dining, golf courses, and shopping. The city has only around 20,000 residents but draws in many tourists from around the country and world looking to escape the cold.

Part of the popularity of the destination is also how safe it is for visitors and residents alike. You generally don’t need to be worried about being victimized by crime, as their rates are far lower than other similarly-sized American cities. Their rates for both property and violent crimes are about half the national average throughout the country.

Of course, in addition to the safety of Naples, the tropical weather you experience in Florida makes this a trendy place to live. It is a good place for anyone, but it is a favorite among retirees due to its location and safety. However, it is only a short drive from exciting places like Tampa and Miami, so isn’t too far from adventure, if that’s your thing.

San Jose, California

While this list has been full of smaller or mid-sized cities, some larger cities have been able to stay incredibly safe despite their size. A great example of this is San Jose, California. San Jose is home to over a million people and is the 10th largest city in the entire country.

While the crime rates aren’t dropping over time as dramatically as in other areas, violent crime is infrequent here, which can be great for your peace of mind. Property crime is a little more common, but this is expected in most areas. Even still, the property crime is still lower than many other large American cities.

Of course, in a city this size, some areas of neighborhoods may not be as safe as others, but the city as a whole is relatively safe. The crime rates might be slightly higher than in smaller cities, but for a city of this size to have both the violent and property crime rates, it is impressive and worth mentioning.
