What Did We Buy At The Cheapest Shop In Britain?

Where to start! Ben (my cousin) and Ben’s son, Alfie, visited many times this year. It became a bit of a ritual for us, which all started because Ben collects CDs. And, I am addicted to thrifting and charity shopping, especially in Great Britain.

On our virgin visit, we immediately dashed the CDs. And, wow, did we score! I mean, look at the titles. Barry White, The Fugees, Boney M, ABBA, and Guns N’ Roses. These are cult classics that are hard to come by, never mind for 20p.

Then there’s this unusual item. Most people won’t know what this is, but it’s a vintage portable pocket ashtray. Pocket ashtrays gained popularity in the mid-20th century, particularly during the 1950s and 1960s, a period when smoking was widespread and socially accepted. They were produced as a convenient way for smokers to dispose of ash and cigarette butts on the go, and were often designed as stylish, collectible accessories. Now, I don’t know if this is really vintage or a reproduction, but it’s well worth 20p.

How about a boxed Christmas tree – a big one too! Yep, we snatched this up because we needed a Christmas tree. Well, honestly, at 20p we would have been buying it no matter what. We all know someone who needs a Christmas tree, right?

Then, there’s quite possibly the most incredible find ever. Once upon a time, long before Alfie was even walking and before iPhones, we had these: iPods. Now considered a relic of the past I could not for the life of me figure out why Ben and Alfie wanted to get this even though it was only 20p. I mean, every human has a smartphone today. Regardless, Alfie has plans for this!

Here is an entirely refurbished iPod with a new back plate, a new battery, and 250 GB. Alfie fitted it with a UAD SD card adaptor as well! Now, in the words of a teenager, this iPod is “sick,” and I have to agree.
