Overview of Glamping
Glamping in Florida mixes outdoor access with creature comforts, from canvas tents with queen beds to waterfront domes and cabin-style lodgings. You’ll find options near state parks, on private properties, and along the coast that prioritize comfort, climate control, and easy access to local attractions. Glamping lends itself to romance. Be it the tranquil settings, the views, or the isolated spots, I’d say 80% of all of my experiences have had a romantic vibe – even if I’ve stayed solo as I did at Camp Stella.
I’ve stayed in tons of unique glamping accommodations across the world, and I’ve stayed in plenty in America. Camp Stella’s Dome Tent is one of my favorites to date. I enjoyed it so much that I added another night. I didn’t want to leave. Seriously, look at the view of Stella Lake that you wake up to:
Popularity of Glamping in Florida
Glamping has grown as travelers seek nature without roughing it. You’ll encounter professionally managed sites and private listings across the state, with demand highest near beaches, state parks, and wildlife areas. Coastal and central Florida destinations attract couples and small groups seeking scenic views, water access, and proximity to dining and activities.
Operators market features that matter to you: comfortable beds, heating/cooling, power outlets, and extras like BBQs or boat parking. You’ll also see themed stays—domes, treehouses, vintage trailers—that appeal to social media-driven travelers and those seeking a short, low-effort escape. Most options also offer a romantic vibe. It’s hard not to find these accommodations romantic.
Examples of other Glamping Places in Florida that I have stayed in:

Many sites include amenities you expect at home, such as device charging, private bathrooms or shared bathhouses, and outdoor cooking gear. You should choose based on your privacy needs, accessibility (on-site parking, steps), and desired activities, such as fishing, kayaking, or nearby hiking.

Discovering Camp Stella, Crescent City
Camp Stella sits on South Main Street at Crescent City’s lakefront, offering a compact set of practical amenities and direct access to nearby parks and the town center. You’ll find a secluded setting with free parking and quick routes to local green spaces and downtown services.
Inside The Dome Tent
Camp Stella offers a lakefront geodesic dome, which is a luxury tent. The dome comfortably sleeps two adults or two children and can accommodate one additional adult. The inside is exquisite with no detail spared, and it’s spotless. Aside from a view to die for, the bed mattress is immensely comfortable, so much so that I asked the owners which mattress I should buy, as I’ll be buying the same one for my next Airbnb that I’m currently working on.
The kitchen that’s cleverly hidden behind the wall at the back of the bed includes a microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, ice maker, air fryer, and kitchenware for simple meal preparation.
Perhaps most impressive is that this dome tent offers the best-stocked kitchen you will ever find during your stay. The hosts provided fresh fruit, yoghurts, fresh milk, cereal, bottled water, and a variety of snacks. They offered so much food that you could show up with no supplies! They even had noodles and toastables! I’m telling you from experience: this is above and beyond any supply I’ve encountered globally. Check out the supply:
The dome is climate-controlled, making it a perfect year-round escape. It has an airconditioning unit and a freestanding fan cooler.
Outside The Dome Tent
While the inside is dreamy, the outside is tropical and stunning. I felt as if I were in the Costa Rican jungle. It’s so well hidden that I had no clue that the hosts lived next door.
There are two outdoor fireplaces: one gas and one wood-burning. I didn’t think to bring wood to burn; however, the hosts were kind enough to get me some.
There are several separate seating areas to take in the views or to hide away. Then there’s the lake, the ducks that visit every morning, and kayaks with life jackets if you want to explore the lake. There’s a seating area around the gas fireplace and the gas barbecue. A lush hammock to nap or star gaze in, and plenty of chairs and benches. These guys really thought of every possible thing you could need to enjoy yourself.
The Bathroom At Camp Stella
The bathroom is also separate from the dome tent. Now, don’t let this disuade you – it was one of my favorite elements. There’s absolutely nothing better than showering outdoors under the stars! And this bathroom has the “wow” factor. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this. The shower’s design is not only functional and stunning but also evokes a tropical aesthetic. The greenery weaving throughout, the stone-and-pebble flooring, and the bamboo walls create an exceptionally unique experience. You feel at one with nature.
The toilet is a composting toilet. If you are not familiar with composting toilets, here’s a brief introduction. Composting toilets are waterless or low-flush, self-contained systems that process human waste into compost using biological decomposition, requiring no sewer or septic connection. They are eco-friendly and are the new rage in glamping.
You might think this is odd or a little too rustic. It’s not. It’s a straightforward concept. You use the toilet the same way you would any. Instead of flushing, use a vinegar spray for liquid waste and cover solid waste with sawdust or a similar material. If you are thinking, “It must smell,” – nope, not at all. I’ve used composting toilets worldwide and have never encountered any issues.
How to Reserve Your Stay At Camp Stella
The dome tent can be booked via Airbnb here: Camp Stella, Crescent City. If you plan to stay the weekend, book early. Reserve at least 2–4 weeks in advance for weekend stays and 4–8 weeks in advance for holiday periods, such as spring break or local events.
Camp Stella requires a two-night minimum stay. However, as I mentioned above, I extended my stay to three nights. I could have easily spent a week here.
It’s also ridiculously affordable! It costs about $120 a night to stay in the dome tent.
Things To Do At Or Near Camp Stella
Fishing experts have declared Crescent City to be the “Bass Capital of the World,” so fishing should be high on your list of things to do. And, given that Camp Stella is on Stella Lake, bring your own fishing poles and fish from the bank. If you enjoy kayak fishing, take the kayaks out onto Stella Lake.
You’ll find clear-water lakes all around Crescent City, along with accessible trails, small-town dining, and a few heritage sites within easy drive of Camp Stella. Activities range from paddling and fishing to dining at local seafood restaurants and visiting historic markers.
For longer outings, head to nearby state forests and recreation areas for hiking and birding. Juniper Springs and Salt Springs are within a reasonable drive and offer established trails, swimming, springs, and picnic areas. If you prefer guided trips, local outfitters in Crescent City and throughout Putnam County offer canoe and eco-tours focused on the St. Johns River system.
If you want beach time, the Atlantic coast (including Daytona Beach) is under an hour and a half by car. That makes day trips to surf, swim, or visit boardwalk attractions practical from Camp Stella.
When is the best time to go glamping in Florida?
Peak glamping season runs from late fall through spring, when temperatures are milder and humidity drops. You’ll avoid the hottest, most humid months of summer and the height of hurricane season by booking between November and April.
Summer stays can still work if you pick accommodations with air conditioning or strong ventilation and plan early-morning or evening outdoor activities. For wildlife viewing or birdwatching, target migration windows in spring and fall to increase your chances of sightings.
What measures does Camp Stella take to ensure the safety and security of its guests during their stay?
Camp Stella has a private entrance for the dome, enhancing privacy and access control.
Can Camp Stella accommodate special requests for occasions like anniversaries or birthdays?
The hosts will consider special requests, but you must contact them first.
Closing Thoughts
I havent imp;lement a rating scale on my site yet. However, if I had one, Camp Stella would score 10/10. It is sheer perfection.
The bed was by far one of the comfiest ever. The views can’t be beat. The wifi is flawless, a huge bonus if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle but still work or stream movies. The outdoor bathroom is heaven. It’s the most well-stocked glaming stays I’ve ever experienced. And, it’s affordable to say the least. I’ve paid much more for fewer equipped stays.
Andy and Shawna, the hosts, were not only responsive but kind and generous! I spoke with Andy for a while, and he shared a range of tips and information on the dome tent. Very useful to me, given I am in the same industry.
Treat yourself! Book a few nights here and relax.
